About Holvi

Holvi represents a unique proposition in the German business banking market by combining a full business bank account with built-in invoicing and expense management tools. Originally from Finland and now part of BBVA, Holvi has carved out a strong niche among freelancers and solopreneurs who want simplicity over complexity. The account comes with a Finnish IBAN but works seamlessly across the EU including Germany. What makes Holvi particularly attractive for solo business owners is the integrated invoicing—create and send professional invoices directly from the app, track payment status, and see how outstanding invoices affect your cash flow. The expense categorization feature automatically sorts transactions, making tax preparation significantly easier. While Holvi may lack the advanced team features of Qonto or the tax automation of Kontist, its all-in-one simplicity at an affordable price point makes it ideal for freelancers who want to minimize the number of tools they juggle.

Holvi Plans and Pricing

  • Starter (€0/mo): Basic account, limited features—try before committing
  • Lite (€6/mo): Full account, invoicing, expense tracking—most freelancers
  • Pro (€12/mo): Multiple accounts, advanced reports, priority support—growing businesses
  • Unlimited (€15/mo): All features, highest limits—power users

The Finnish IBAN Question

Holvi provides a Finnish IBAN (FI prefix), not German (DE). For SEPA payments within Europe, this makes no functional difference—payments work identically. However, some German customers or employers may initially question a foreign IBAN. In practice, this is rarely an issue, but consider it if your clients are traditional businesses.

Built for Freelancers

  • Invoice creation: Professional invoices in minutes, track payment status
  • Expense categories: Auto-categorize transactions for tax preparation
  • Cash flow view: See money in vs money out at a glance
  • Tax overview: Quick view of revenue and deductible expenses
  • Receipt storage: Attach receipts to transactions digitally

BBVA Backing

Holvi is owned by BBVA, one of Europe's largest banks. This provides stability and deposit protection that smaller fintech startups can't match. Your money is protected up to €100,000 under Finnish deposit insurance, same as any EU bank. BBVA's backing also means Holvi isn't at risk of running out of funding.

Who Should Use Holvi

Holvi is ideal for solo freelancers and very small businesses who want one tool for banking and invoicing. If you need team features, multiple cards, or deep German accounting integration, consider Qonto, Moss, or Finom instead. But for simplicity at low cost, Holvi delivers exactly what many freelancers need.
